Food Co-Operative stores

Postby tallbirdme » Tue Mar 27, 2012 6:25 pm

I shop regularly at my local co-operative store and always take my own bag, but today the store assistant tried to offer me a plastic one, and said they don't charge for them, so I should take it! I went in to lecture mode a little and said they should stop giving out so many plastic bags, and just have the big green ones they charge 10p for.

Have any Morsbaggers given bags out at the co-op? I would have thought this was right up their street!

I think you did well because hopefully she will probably pass on your comments to the manager. I have only campaigned with Sainsbury's and M&S. The Co-op shouldn't be using the fact that their plastic bags are free as a reason to take them.

We are giving away 100 morsbags together with 200 calico bags from the council and some from sainsburys at Market Harborough Sainsburys on good friday from 9.30pm- 10.30pm if you are interested in coming along. It will be a nice event, nothing aggressive and a result of Mary Danks (Harborough HITbags) negociations with the community officer. The message will be to use any re-usable bag. I think it is very exciting! I am going to give mini eggs to any customer who have brought re-usable bags shopping with them.

It would be lovely to meet you!

Sounds lovely - especially the mini eggs.... Shall I bring some cones of thread back with me (assuming we make it to Leicester, with the looming petrol shortages..... :( ) Then you could pass them on to Tallbirdme. :D

Maybe a couple, thank you Beattie. Have you tried the unbleached cotton in the boxes yet? We find it ok. I still have about 500 reels!

The unbleached cotton in boxes is my thread of choice, but M/C likes cones better - and so I when we're doing events and sewing all day long. Thank you for all the boxes and cones you gave us - what a lot of choice we have now!

I'm glad you like the unbleached cotton, Beattie. I like it as well. Offcuts2 don't get on very well with it. They need very strong thread! I have noticed the cones work very well at shows. :D

Good question! I am totally confused with easter, mothering sunday, clocks going forward etc! Anyway its a week on friday so I'm told. So its Sainsburys, Market Harbourough, meet about 9.15am. I'll be there and so will the guys from Harborough HITbags who are lovely. No doubt we shall go for a coffee afterwards. I can bring you fabric and thread. You will just need to look out for the blue morsbag t-shirts. It will be lovely to meet you if you can make it, tallbirdme! :D
