The weather changed and the clouds got thicker and darker as Mr B and I drove slowly - there were end-of-half-term traffic jams to enjoy - up through Cornwall to Calstock on the border with England. We wished we'd packed our waterproofs and were glad the morsbags jackets were in the car, but when we arrived we found that Offcuts and Ivybags already had the gazebo up on the green in front of the village hall and had turned the sun back on - at least part time.
Offcuts' new gazebo is a miracle of modern engineering and folds down into a handy carry bag as well!
Lots of children made their own bags - and I feel much happier about them using hand cranks than I do if they're using electric machines.
This chap in the blue checked shirt made a bag, with the help of his friends, and between them came up with a new method of joining side seams that amused Mr B. I don't know where they came from - their accents were foreign - I wish I'd asked, as we could call it the "Lithuanian seam" or whatever.
We all commented on this girl's "hat on a hairband" fascinator
- and red tights and purple tutu
We all had a super day out on the green and would love to be asked back next year.
There are people in the village interested in starting their own pod, which would be marvellous.
And our handcranks got an airing!
Altogether 32 bags were made on 6 old machines.
Not bad for a lot of old crocks - and the sewing machines held up well too.
