Quilt Morsbag Comp! Win tickets to Quilting Exhibition @ V&a

Postby pol » Mon Mar 22, 2010 8:39 pm

Here's a competition for all you quilty morsbaggers and for all those who fancy giving patchwork quilting - a morsbag - a go!

As always with morsbags, the aim is funky functionality, so don't panic if you're not a pro-quilter.... please do still enter the fun and the judging won't all be technical...

Prize for Best overall Quilted Morsbag = 2 pairs of tickets to the Fabulous Quilt Exhibition at the V&A Museum. http://www.vam.ac.uk/exhibitions/future ... index.html

Prize for Best Random Quilted Morsbag = 1 pair of tickets to the Quilts Exhibition at the V&A

Prize for Best Traditional Quilted Morsbag = 1 pair of tickets to the Quilts Exhibition at the V&A

Prize for most inventive Quilted Morsbag = 1 pair of tickets to the Quilts Exhibition at the V&A!!

The Exhibition runs from the 20th March to the 4th of July 2010 so you can use your tickets any time.... I know many morsbaggers don't live in London but how about making a day of it with a friend and come to the Big Smoke?

"The V&A will present its first ever exhibition of British quilts, with examples dating from 1700 to the present day - a unique opportunity to view the V&A's unseen quilt collection as well as key national loans. Earliest examples include a sumptuous silk and velvet bedcover, with an oral narrative that links it to King Charles II's visit to an Exeter manor house in the late 17th century. Recent examples will include works by leading artists such as Grayson Perry and Tracey Emin and commissions for the exhibition by a number of contemporary artists including Sue Stockwell and Caren Garfen."

10.00 to 17.45 daily
10.00 to 22.00 Fridays

Many thanks to the Victoria and Albert Museum for generously donating these tickets to morsbaggers :D

Davina Thomas will judge this on the 3rd of May....

Davina was Editor of Popular Patchwork for a number of years and has also taught patchwork and quilting to City and Guilds level. She is the author of a book on patchwork called "200 Quilt Blocks to Mix & Match" and she has also written numerous articles and projects for magazines. She is currently studying for an honours degree in Contemporary Applied Art at the university of Hertfordshire. Many thanks to her for offering to judge this competition :D

Please enter your creative entries by posting a photo of your quilted morsbag by midnight that night on this thread. Please comment on this thread elsewhere so that the entries are clear to judge.

Good luck! May the quilting commence!!

:D

quilted bag comp

Do we really only have to submit photo for judging or am I misunderstanding the instructions?

quilted bags

The reason I asked about judging by photo is that I have made a bag with patterned fabric and quilting adds a texture but does not show up in a photo. I think I mis-understood the instructions and that you mean "patchwork" bag not just "quilted" bag.

I think they can be quilted or not quilted. Perhaps a close-up of the quilting would show up the texture. Can't wait to see your entry Fabbag Lady :D

So, if the quilting is optional, this is actually a patchwork bag competition............

We don't have time to make any special bags as we've got a big order on, but I do have some pics of a few patchwork bags, if previously-made ones are acceptable for this comp. And they are patchwork / pieced but not quilted.
