Great day at Burbage Farmers Market yesterday. Its on the west of Leics near the Warwickshire border. The stall holders, church members and shoppers were very interested in the proceedings. Liz, the market manager, set me up indoors opposite the coffee bar. I had 2 tables and a nice window sill for laminates and display bags.
Liz gave away 50 bags outside and I gave away another 50 inside I think that just right - I like to leave them wanting more. The church craft group have offered to take in fabric donations, loads of people offered me fabric.
I was introduced to a guy who runs a community/volunteer centre in Warwickshire. He is keen to start his own pod and I have offered to help him get going.
Here is Giada who is Italian, her grandparents live in Alba (I think) . She learnt to use a sewing machine and then made a bag for her mum. She also managed to wheedle one of my best display bags(elephants) for her teacher. So all in all a brilliant morning. I’m back there in June.

|
|
March is a busy month on offcut's calender. On the 13th and 20th March we are holding a givaway/workshop in Market Harborough Indoor Market. We are working with Harborough Improvement Team.
They have already launched a Bag in a Box scheme, whereby businesses have a box of calico bags and employees borrow them to do their lunchtime shopping. Good idea I thought. The bags themselves have been designed by students at a local school and sponsored by local traders. The idea has been spearheaded by another amazing Mary, and it is with her and other volunteers that I shall be working on the 13th and 20th with the hope of setting up a Harborough pod. HIT together with the water authority also have sessions cleaning out the river which I am looking forward to getting involved with!

Can't wait! Big it up for Market Harborough _________________ 'morsbaggers do it for free!' (Mary Scissorhands August 2009) |

This is happening on thurs 11th March. It is a permanant job keeping Offcuts2 supplied with fabric and I have been mulling over the idea of going into offices for a few weeks. A very nice man called Malcolm, who is a councillor, walks his dogs past my house everyday and we have a sort of ongoing conversation about the environment in which he has a special interest.
He put me in touch with the public relations officer at our local council and we have arranged for me to go in. The idea is for me to take in about 250 bags, made by Offcuts2, and for the employees to empty their airing cupboards and bring in the usual. We are also taking in 30 bags for the councillors. I am going to be there for 3 hours over lunchtime so there will be an opportunity for employes to make a bag and even start a pod. The first time is very much an experiment to see how it goes so fingers crossed! _________________ 'morsbaggers do it for free!' (Mary Scissorhands August 2009) |

Good luck with all of these Offcuts! The "Bag an Office" idea is one that could be used in almost every community. Thinking...... _________________ Make a bag - you know you want to! |
